Hi, I’m Malaika and I’m so glad you are here!
Thank you for allowing me to be a source of hope in your life. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist – Supervisor and a mom of two girls, I know firsthand that the parenting struggle is real. There is no “perfect” way to parent, but the joy children can bring makes it worth seeking help in difficult times.
I value honesty and promise to walk with you through the messiness of family life and new parenthood and not to judge your parenting decisions. I seek to come alongside and support and encourage you during your unique family journey to a place of more wholeness.
My passion for working with mothers and children was cultivated in graduate school. While pursuing a Master of Social Work degree, I quickly learned I loved working with young families. Early in my career, I was a therapist in an early childhood program for kids experiencing emotional trauma and behavior problems. Here, I was able to utilize play therapy and saw how kids responded and expressed their feelings more readily through play.
Fast forward to today, I have been privileged to serve in countless areas of social work including a family birth center for new moms, children’s hospitals, a trauma counseling center, teaching graduate social work, and now have operated a private practice for more than 14 years. I am a member of Postpartum Support International, Association for Play Therapy and California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
Beyond my client work, I love cooking Thai food, engaging with other cultures through travel, and playing in the sun with my beach-loving family. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your story and interests, too.
